How Much Land, a group show of Chicago artists, at McCormick Gallery (835 West Washington Blvd., Chicago) runs June 17 to August 13, 2016. There will be an opening from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday June 17. The show is curated by Jessica Cochran and features art by Jessica Caponigro, Diane Christiansen, Deborah Handler, Anna Kunz, Zoe Nelson, Josué Pellot, Josh Reames, Allison Reimus, Ryan Richey, Philip von Zweck, Erin Washington and Amanda Williams. (Art)Xiomas - CUBAAHORA: The Next Generation--A Contemporary Cuban Art Exhibition runs June 9 to August 7, 2016 at The Art Museum of the Americas (Washington D.C.). There will be an opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 9. The opening featuers music by the Cuatro Esquinas and Gato Gatel & Pavel Urkiza Quartet. The exhibit is part of an effort to celebrate current Cuban art and is a celebration of the centennial of José Gómez Sicre. Sicre is the museum's founding director. Christine Elfman's Even Amaranth runs July 14 to September 3, 2016 at Gallery Wendi Norris (161 Jessie St., San Francisco). There will be an opening reception from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 14. The artist will give a talk at 6 p.m. This is Elfman's second solo exhibit with the gallery. These photographs are beased on the flower associated with Diana, the goddess of the hunt/fertility--"amaranth." Her work include anthotypes, photograms and landscapes. Elfman is based in San Francisco. She is originally from the Philadelphia area. She has a BFA from Cornell and an MFA from California College of the Arts. Selected Works By Dan Rizzie Opens June 11, 2016 At Peter Marcelle Project (Southampton, New York)6/6/2016 Selected Works by Dan Rizzie opens June 11, 2016 at Peter Marcelle Project (4 North Main St., Southampton, New York). There will be a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 11. The work shown dates back to 1982 and comes from the artist's personal collection. Rizzie has been exhibiting since the 70s and has been the subject of over 90 solo exhibits. He was born in New York State and travelled around the world in his youth--from India to Egypt to Jordan and Jamaica. He currently lives in Long Island. His work is included in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Dallas Museum of Art and the Parrish Art Museum among others. Fragments, prints, drawings and sculpture Bby John J. Richardson at Causey Contemporary (29 Orchard St., New York) beginning Friday June 10, 2016. There will be a reception from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday June 10. This is the artist's first solo exhibition with Causey. Richardson's work is inspired by industrial "garbage" found on the streets of Detroit (in particular the pieces that are part of his Case Study Series). All the stuff he collects on walks around his home/studio in the city. He reimagines this stuff he finds into sculpture. Robert Koch Gallery (San Francisco) showing Lauren Marsolier's Dislocation from July 7 to September 3, 2016. There will be an artist reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 7. Dislocation is the second installment in the artist's Transition series. The pieces are photo-montages put together from images compiled by the artist over time. The pieces are surreal, man-made landscapes, ringed with otherworldly light. They are composite photographs with images culled from long expanses of time and they walk toe line between the constructed and nature. The French artist lives and works in Los Angeles. Her monograph, Transition, won First Prize in the Fine Art Book category at the 2015 International Photography Awards. |
