Brittany Nelson, a graduate of Cranbrook Academy of Art, has a new exhibit opening at David Klein Gallery (163 Townsend, Birmingham, Michigan) on June 15 and running through July 20, 2013.

Word Play, curated by Stephanie Chefas, opens June 29, 2013 at Design Matters, 11527 West Pico Blvd, Los Angeles. There will be a reception from 7 to 10 pm on June 29. The exhibition features seven conceptual artists working in a variety of media. The group of artists are all strongly influenced by the written word. Featured in this exhibition are: Greg Lamarche, Shawn Huckins, RERO, Gregory Siff, Ben Venom, Meryl Pataky and Meg Hitchcock.

Dying on Stage:New Painting in New York is a group exhibition of New York-based painters opening at Garis & Hahn (263 Bowery). It runs from June 20 through July 20, 2013. Painters featured include: Sarah Faux, Tatiana Berg, Ariel Dill, Kristina Lee and Clare Grill. The exhibit was curated by Kyle Chayka. There will be an opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 20th. The artists are all abstract painters who use a similar "approach" which has been termed "New Casualism." This is the first NYC show bringing together this new sort of abstract artist. Packer Schopf Gallery, 942 W. Lake St., Chicago, presents an artist talk with Kathy Halper at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 15, 2013. There will also be a screening of Kathy Halper/Artist in Residence Series, a short documentary from Joe Gallo Film. Following the film Halper will discuss the social commentary in her embroidery work. For more on Halper and her work go HERE. Civilian Art Projects (1019 7th St. NW, second floor) presents two new exhibits running simultaneously: Bill Rock's Guests & Wesley Clark's Targets and Goals. Both run from June 7 through July 20, 2013. Guests is Rock's first solo exhibit with Civilian. These are paintings and drawings on paper from the D.C.-based artist. The characters depicted in Rock's work here are all guests of one sort or another. The artist has a BA in Radio, Television and Film from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and his MFA in Visual Arts from Vermont College. He has been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions and his work is in a number of significant collections around the world. This is Clark's first solo exhibit since receiving his MFA from George Washington Univesity. This exhibit is new work and work "recontextualized" from his thesis. HIs work is about fictional histories, memories and artifacts. This is, in part, based on how humans recreate the past every time they recall seomthing.
Clark, a native of Silver Spring, Md received his BFA from Syracuse. His work has been shown all over the USA and is in collections here, Japan and Germany. He as worked as an art handler/installer and is the founder of Artist's Eye Installations which installs artwork and mirrors. The Field Museum and the Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago are teaming up to bring the city a light and sound installation created by Marco Nereo Rotelli. The installation, entitled, Divina Natura, is a one night only event taking place June 24, 2013. What is better this event is free and open to the public on the lawn north of the museum. The installation takes its inspiration from Dante's The Divine Comedy. The front of the museum will become a manuscript in honor of the Year of Italian Cuture. There will be readings by a variety of poets--in different languages. Rotelli has done installatons at the Venice Biennale. He has a degree in architecture and has worked with light and poetry for some time. The artist has created major installations in Pais, Beijing, London, Naples and Rome. He is the founder of Milan's Art Project Cultural Association. |
